I rely on the USPS pretty heavily for delivering my packages, and my good-natured postman for doing me the favor of picking up countless little yellow envelopes to go in the mail. So while I appreciate the USPS, I admit it also bums me out. I’ve been selling online since 2007, and every year when the postal changes roll around, I sigh heavily and grouch about it a little.
So, it’s that time. Dear friends and customers, I apologize, but you’re likely going to be noticing some changes when you order from small businesses. As of January 17, 2016 there have been some pretty big changes in USPS shipping rates. First Class domestic shipping has seen an increase of 12.8%, and First Class international shipping has seen an increase of 21.6%.
The good news for me is that I can pack a little more weight into a shipping envelope without the price going up. The bad news is that in order to cover the cost of shipping (including envelopes and gift boxes), I have had to increase shipping costs somewhat. My first class domestic shipping is now $4, with shipping to Canada at $10 and all other international shipping at $13. Domestic shipping has only gone up a dollar with the bigger change affecting international. I do my very best to keep shipping prices as low as possible, so the fees I charge truly only cover my cost and do not include any handling fees, so please rest assured that these changes are made at the absolute minimum possible.
In more fun news, I recently discovered anti tarnish tabs, little coated sheets that you seal in with your clean silver jewelry that protects against tarnish for up to a year. They absorb the elements that cause tarnish without emitting anything yucky or harmful. How cool is that? These little tabs are non-abrasive and non-toxic and doesn’t leave any sort of residue on your jewelry. Each Seashore Design Studio order now includes an anti tarnish tab in a little baggie – toss it in your jewelry box, the gift box your new jewelry came with, or seal it in a bag with your favorites.
Remember that these babies protect from new tarnish, but don’t remove old tarnish or dirt, so start with clean jewelry for best results. Just how long each tab works depends on how well sealed it is, but you’ll know when your tab is starting to lose it’s effectiveness because you’ll notice it starting to change color.
Oh hey! This website just launched this week! Today is January 19 – remember that any order placed at www.seashoredesignstudio.etsy.com between now and Friday, January 22 will include a free fine silver star charm to celebrate the website launch.
